About The Mag

It’s a warm little Sunday afternoon. You’re lying in a hammock, or on your back in some soft grass, or curled up on the couch basking in the sun like a cozy housecat. Some gentle, soft thoughts float in your head and out again, and then you fall asleep. Or, you think you fall asleep—you’re not really sure. But you’re quite happy, and everything makes sense in this lackadaisical moment of laze and comfort and tranquility. This is what Neon Snooze is all about. 

Neon Snooze is a fun creative project published in the form of a magazine every now and then. It’s made by a whimsical coterie of friends and artists, wizards and witches and weirdos, bohemians and bon vivants, collaborators and co-conspirators, who first met in New Hampshire’s Seacoast region and now span the whole of New England and beyond. While we do publish a magazine, the magazine is only one little piece of the puzzle, and an excuse to do a whole lot of other kooky stuff. In making each issue, we sit down with creatives and craftspeople of all shapes and sizes, from brewers and painters, to designers and dog-walkers; from wordsmiths and ne’er-do-wells, to nincompoops and mystics. We write about them, photograph them, let them tell their story, use our own talents and quirks to zhuzh up their story, and in doing so, we zero in on our focus as human beings: To slow down in a world full of quick consumption and hustle-and-bustle and deeply consider the small things. You know, the small stuff—like the way freshly-cut grass smells on a spring day, or maybe the flick of an artist’s wrist while constructing an oil-laden galaxy….or maybe, just maybe, a maybe-nap on a warm Sunday afternoon, where you’re not sure whether you fell asleep or not but everything makes perfect sense.

These little things – and the process of doing them – are what make life worth living. Thus, we figured we should devote a second [or a minute (or a lifetime)] to documenting them. We do that with this magazine—and with release parties and artist meet-ups and open mic nights and bull sessions a whole lot of other cool stuff. Join us on our journey of eternal slow-down.
